Because of the point of sale tax, some companies have said they will not relocate or open new businesses in South Carolina. Our state has lost hundreds of millions in economic investment and that means businesses are taking their jobs to other states. In today’s economy, we can’t afford to lose more jobs.
Point of sale also affects the housing market. Housing affordability is critical to South Carolina’s exceptional quality of life. Taxing homes at a higher rate when they are sold will impact affordability---hurting working families and seniors the most, in a struggling economy.
